For most Americans, Braun is known primarily (and singularly) as a company that makes shavers and coffee makers. However in the design world, it is known as design innovator of highest degree (some refer to it the proto-Apple). Through the designs of Dieter Rams (check this flickr stream), Braun championed super-slick, functionalist designs throughout 1950-80s. Initially, I wasn't impressed. I thought the design was too old-fashioned. I was undecided between giving it away to my son or returning it. So i just kept it in the box. Weeks later, I re-visited it and found, to my surprise, that it was growing on me. I guess it was the clean, simple, functional design, along with the separate second-hand dial. Plus I liked the feel and color of the leather strap. So I started wearing it, casual-like, for days at a time. Now, I'm getting compliments from friends who notice it.

I love this watch. The epitome of clean design. Works in both formal and informal settings. Size is perfect, too. Finally--a virtually silent movement, which I find to be important. I occasionally wish there was a date display, but can live without it.
